Buyer-Intent Prompt
A buyer-intent prompt is a question a prospective customer asks an AI assistant while actively evaluating a purchase — 'best X for Y', 'alternatives to Z', 'does X integrate with Y', 'is X worth the price'. These prompts matter more than informational queries because the answer often decides which vendors make the buyer's shortlist.
Not all AI visibility is equal. Appearing in the answer to 'what is CRM software' is nice; appearing in the answer to 'best CRM for a 10-person sales team under $50 per seat' is pipeline. Buyer-intent prompts are the generative-search equivalent of commercial-intent keywords, and they deserve the same prioritization.
Useful buyer-intent prompts come from real evaluation behavior: sales-call questions, competitor comparison searches, RFP checklists, community threads where buyers ask for recommendations. The best sets cover the full evaluation arc — category discovery, head-to-head comparison, pricing, integration and security verification, and final validation ('is X legit').
Because conversational search is multi-turn, intent prompts increasingly carry constraints ('for a fintech, EU-hosted, with HubSpot integration'). Monitoring should include constrained variants, since those are the prompts where a missing fact on your site most directly costs the recommendation.
